set designs.

As we have many different scenes within our animation, this means that we will have many different set designs. our main sets within out animation are a car garage, car crash, hospital, training on a track, talking to coach, competing in the race, and also holding the medal at the end.
Here are the set design drawing for our Help for Heroes animation.
Here is the set design where the main character will be fixing a car in the garage this shows the trade the soldier has got and also shows she working and doing her job.

this is the car crash set design, this is where our main character will be injured ans then unfortunately have to retire from the army due to the injuries she had got within the car crash.

This scene is where she will be told that she has to retire and will recover her injury's in the hospital.

this is where she has been training for the competitions.

this set design shows that she had overcome her injury and has won gold in the event she has been training for.

Final Music Video

Character sketches

we have chosen  various different characters throughout our animation, we have thought carefully about who they are and also what outfit they should be wearing.

Our main character is a women that is in the forces. She is a mechanic that has served for her country in various operations,  we will have her in various different outs fits due to where she is, she will have mechanic wear, hospital wears, and also sports wears,

We have other characters that will been shown within our animation such as a doctor, paramedics, training coach, and competitors,

Doctor, this character will be shown when ??? Is in hospital being told that she will never be able to serve again, she has brain damage.

Paramedics, when ?? Has a crash at the beginning or our animation then the paramedics will come and help and assist the people in a crash. there will be several paramedics within the animation

13. Evaluations of formats

 WWW:
Clay is easy to mold into different shapes

The clay is easy to move slightly without being able to see where the changes were made on the clay.

EBI:
If the clay  was a better character  and more interesting.
if the background was more realistic and made the animation look better.

I believe that we could use this as our format as clay is easy to would into different shapes making it easier to show a bomb being blown up. also with clay it can be broken so we can show and demo straight the injuries a soldier could get.

WWW:
The structure was strong so characters are easy to move small amounts.
The choice of characters was better and more interesting.

EBI:
When shooting take more frames so the film was smoother and not as jumpy.
the idea wasn't realistic and was filmed to quickly.

Lego could work however it wouldn't be the best choice. Lego is the easiest to film as the structures are strong and easy to move small amounts however for our advert Lego will limit it s to what he are trying to show and stopping us getting the message we want to get across.

WWW:
The flow of the actual animation ran smoothly.
the choice of the animation was simple but effective.
everything that needed to be in the shot was.

EBI:
The board pen was darker and easier to see.
If the board was in the middle of the page.
the whiteboard moved when drawing another part of the animations, would be better if we stuck it down in one position.

To be able to use this this format the pictures that are used have to be drawn very well so the viewer can understand what is going on. I feel if the images are drawn well then this format could be very effective and give a the viewers the message we want to give them.

WWW:
Once the animation was put together it ran smoothly and worked well.
even though the camera moved it got everything within the shot that it needed to.
you can clearly see what the concept of idea was.

EBI:
The camera was held in a solid position, using a tripod will prevent camera from moving.
the lighting within the animation made it look less realistic as the way the shadow was on the person you could tell he was lying down.
the main character stayed and only moved slightly when each photo was being taken. as you can see the change in position in the head.

This format will be very difficult to use for our advert. it will not work. we have to show many different scenes and within each scene there is a lot going on throughout. we will have to have several actors all under one camera which will be hard.

WWW:
You can see the person waving understand what is happening within the animation.

EBI:
Taken more time cutting out the character
havong more body parts so the character moves more making the animation longer and more intresting.
if the camera was positioned better.
having a better background.

Paper cut out can be very hard to do well. Each character has to be cut out well enough making it realistic. Paper will also be a very long winded method as mmany parts will have to be cut out and added to each frame as things move.

2. Development of Animation

Phenakistoscope
Joseph Plateau, 1832
In 1832, Belgian physicist Joseph Plateau and him and his sons introduced the phenakistoscope to the world also known as the "spindle viewer".  It was invented independently in the same year by Simon von Stampfer of Vienna, Austria, who called his invention a stroboscope.  Plateau's inspiration had come primarily from the work of Michael Faraday and Peter Mark Roget (the compiler of Roget's Thesaurus).  Faraday had invented a device he called "Michael Faraday's Wheel," that consisted of two discs that spun in opposite directions from each other.  From this, Plateau took another step, adapting Faraday's wheel into a toy he later named the phenakistoscope.

William Horner

William Horner was  also another animation pioneer, he's spends years and created the zoetrope. He created the zoetrope in 1834.A zoetrope is a device that produces an illusion of action from a rapid succession. It was designed to be a better version off the phenkitascope. it lead to the praxinoscope being made and also lead to animation being viewed simpler. this made animation easier to be seen because it had small slits on the side where the person could look inside and it would give a better effect than a phenkitascope.  the designs on the zoetrope vary from animals to football players, and is still used today.

Charles-Émile Reynaud
Charles-Émile Reynaud  was a French inventor, responsible for the first creations of the animated in cartoons. Reynaud created the Praxinoscope in 1877 and the theatre Optique in December 1888, and on 28 October 1892 he projected the first animated film in public, Pauvre Pierrot, at the Mussee Grevin in Paris. This is also notable as the first known instance of film Preforations being used.

homas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman. He developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph , the motion picture camera, and a long-lasting, practical electric light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park", he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention, and because of that, he is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research labortoray

George Pal
George Pal (born György Pál Marczincsak; February 1, 1908 – May 2, 1980) was a Hungarian-born  and film producer, principally associated with the  genre. He became an American citizen after emigrating from Europe. He was nominated for (in the category Best short subjects, Cartoon) no less than seven consecutive years (1942–1948) and received an honorary award in 1944. This makes him the second most nominated Hungarian exile (together with William S. Darling andErnest Laszlo) after Miklós Rózsa.

Developers

Willis Harold O'Brien (March 2, 1886 – November 8, 1962) was an American motion animation special  and  pioneer, who according to "was responsible for some of the best-known images in cinema history," and is best remembered for his work on  (1925), (1933) and  (1949), for which he won the 1950 Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.Willis O'Brien was born in . He first left home at the age of eleven to work on cattle ranches, and again at the age of thirteen when he took on a variety of jobs including farmhand, factory worker, fur trapper, cowboy, and bartender. During this time he also competed in rodeos and developed an interest in dinosaurs while working as a guide to palaeontologists in Crater Lake region.

Raymond Frederick Harryhausen was born on the 29th June 1920 in Los Angeles, California, USA, to parents Fred and Martha.
He had a passion, which has never abated, for dinosaurs and anything fantasy.
His parents both encouraged him to pursue what he wanted to, even if the chosen career wasn’t what they would have probably considered usual.  Ray commented, ‘My obsession with fantasy has been lifelong, growing during my formative years and being taken to new heights by novels, paintings and of course films, and I was always encouraged by my parents.  They nurtured this unusual passion in me by taking me to films and theatre, and later enthused about my experiments with marionettes, models and animation, eventually even helping me with productions.  They never tried to discourage me in any way from my obsession, and could just as easily have said, ‘Get out there and be a doctor or a lawyer or follow some other profession that is going to bring you in money’.  Fortunately, they didn’t’.

Crew roles

Artist: Thomas Madkins
Reasons why: We have chosen Tom to be the artists within the production o f the animation due to him studying A-level art. His has the best ability to draw in the group and will produce the best detailed outcome for our animation. Tom was key in the original ideas of the animation and has a veery good understand of what he wants the final outcome to look like, this will help with the drawing of the animation.
Definition-
  1. In the United States, the terms animation director and supervising animator are sometimes used interchangeably, and in essence, they refer to the same thing.
Camera work: Kieran Mcwilliam
Reason why: We thought that Kieran would be the best at the filming of our animation. He has gathered various different camera skills while studying A-level photography. With the experience he has he can get the best camera angles and lighting for the production of our animation.
Definition-
  1. In this setting, a camera operator is part of a film crew consisting of the director of photography and one or more cameraassistants. In documentary filmmaking and news, the camera is often called on to film unfolding, unscripted events.
Producer and Director: Charlie wheelhouse
Reason why: Charlie has the most media experience, he gave us very good ideas on what our animation should be about, we all helped come up with several ideas for the animation however when it came to developing them on charlie stood out the most, we felt he would be the best for the organisation and will also be the best for saying what he wants the animation to look like and also when the filming will take place.
Definition-
  1. A film director is a person who directs the making of a film. Generally, a film directorcontrols a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, and visualizes the script while guiding the technical crew and actors in the fulfillment of that vision.
Editor: charlie wheelhouse and Thomas Madkins.
Reasons why: we have chosen Charlie and Tom to do the citing for the animation, as charlie is the producer and Director we want him to have input within the editiing. Also he has had previous experiences with editing and creating videos.
Definition-
  1. On its most fundamental level, film editing is the art, technique, and practice of assembling shots into a coherent sequence. The job of an editor isn't simply to mechanically put pieces of a film together, cut off film slates, or edit dialogue scenes.

Ok Go Research.1

This video, by 'OK GO' was published in 2010 with only one camera which is constantly rotating and changing angle. It was changes how close it gets to the objects and how far away from the objects it is. It also feels like someone is holding it as it is moving in and out. There is probably the tiniest bit of editing to this video, but not alot at all as it is all set up by the crew all by hand. The video is set up really smartly as everything that goes on, leads to another thing for a full 3 minutes and 54 seconds.

The most impressive thing about this video is that there is no editing and it must have taken a lot of rehearsal. I really liked how each action lead to another action in the video and it all linked in with the music.
